hiya .
im in the middle of of a rebuild of my 110 300tdi.

what im doing
stretching chassis to 127 (130)
td5 engine
tipper body
2 seater cab .

question is,
if i notify dvla... engine change first from a 300tdi to a td5
hopefully get log book back saying its engine has been changed to td5
resend logbook back saying its now a 2 seater pick up
and again hopefully get log book back with all new details.
then when i sva it do you think ive got more chance of keeping the same reg.
i know its not all original from factory standard but the new log book will have most of the changes apart from the chassis.
would they go by what the log book is saying for my point scoring, or just from factory build.
i have done quite a bit of searching but cant find answers to what im after, so hopefully someone on here could help.
cheers ian

I've had a lot of discussions with the DVLA over my conversion of my Series 2a to a camper. I'm assuming that your concern is to avoid a Q plate? (Am I right?) The DVLA were very clear that they treat Landrovers as a class on thier own (sui-generis) becuse both chassis and body are replaceable so the "normal" rule that the chassis in the ID on a truck and the body on a car don't apply. They accept that Land Rover bodies will change and don't want to keep changeing the V5s, a typical example would be the number that change from hard top to soft top or truck cab then back again later. The points system is mostly about historic status, as this is not relevent I would not expect a problem. Specialist conversions such as Defenders with scissor lifts etc are on their orgial registrations as are the expedition camper conversions.

Just search for DVLA points system, should explain it all. Personally I would buy a 130 chassis with v5 and build that instead, DVLA are a nightmare to deal with.

Keep the changes to yourself and keep the reg.
Why bother dvla, they WILL have to take action if you bother them and you will be on a Q reg.

Buy a 130. Changing the engine will be picked up on SVA.search SVA not a good thing to try to get one done. Failed cateram kit on angle of the fog light as it was leaning upwards.
And then you get a Q plate for the chassis mods.
Easier to build a 130 than convert a 110.

I agree re advice to buy a 130 chassis, not withstanding the SVA / Q plate issues you could run into insurance problems too for the modified chassis, better to have one built to be 130 than a cut-and-shut. Everytime you tell someone the chassis has been cut and lenghthened to be like a 130 you will get asked "why didn't you build it on a 130 chassis?" The novelty will soon wear off.

thanks for all them replies, looks like im in for some headaches, ive got to inform dvla, just to do it right, (think i have been stopped by vosa now over 10 times in last 6 years:..and they have always found something, they in pounded my motor last year for a floppy mirror.

just unlucky,
last time i was in the queue to get my landy inspected, i did ask a motor cycle copper if i was invited the to roast hog bbq, it turned out to be his mate that had the apple stuffed in his mouth and he then inspected my landy.
at the time very funny, but he soon wiped the smile of my face when they impounded my motor

That is very unlucky. What does your motor look like?

In regards to your original query, why not buy a 130 tipper, and sell your existing vehicle?
Or not, it you don't need the money.

when the landy was on the rd.it was bang up together.tidy.
this project started off as a rear cross member change, and i got very carried away.
if im building it, im going to know it inside out, if you see what i mean

I do see what you mean, but it still seems a lot of hassle. And working on any landrover will let you get to know them inside out, they are all very similar, or at least evolved from something very similar.
