Hi Everyone,

I should have introduced myself in my other thread.

I've had a 2005 Freelander SE TD4 for 3 years now. Its done 180,000 miles but I got it off another LR enthusiast so Its generally been well looked after. My Mrs had a fight with a concrete column in a carpark which caused the scratches on the door.

Last year we drove it to Greece and back. Apart from the rear window cable coming off its rollers and dropping the window down and the air con failing it didn't miss a beat. I'm just prepping it for another 4500 mile round trip to Greece this summer.

It needs a new VCU, it had one from Bell engineering about 30,000 mile ago, but its getting tight again. Lower arms replacing. Rear drums and pads. And 4 new tyres. And if the front cross member welding.

It helps when you know how its been maintained. But there is definitely some anxiety over such a long trip. I just try to cover all bases I can.
Yep. Bought it with circa 70k on the clock at the beginning of 2013. It's currently undergoing a bit of a refurb at the moment to get it back to fine fettle, but I intend keeping it well in to the future. The current list of jobs are...

Rear subframe replacement (and probably new fuel tank cradle at the same time)
Recon rear diff (as it's the only bit of the drivetrain I've neglected over the years)
Recon VCU and new bearings (recently been tightening)
NS driveshaft inner joint (new GKN shaft fitted a while ago but the boot failed - grr)
OSF ball joint and track rod end
Headling and door card fabric retrims (standard for a near 20yr old Land Rover)
Other upgrade bits planned too (poly bushes, maybe a lift and a sump guard if finances allow)

Nice motor, shame about the Mrs picking fights.

I'll be on the lookout for another door at some point but at the moment keeping it running has been a priority.

I've had other Landys in the past but the Freelander is very practical. Plus I doubt I could afford one now!

Fathers day ill be under it.
You could write something vulgar on the bonnet and no one would look at the door 😂

Nice to see someone looking after an FL1… I wish I had enough trust in mine to take it on such a road trip - I ‘might’ take mine up to the bonnie highlands later this year, but I certainly wouldn’t attempt Greece, even though I know the history and have done a lot of work to it!

Last year we drove down through Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Albania. The border crossing were awful in the heat wave.

This year we are going down through France and Italy and then catching the ferry.

Can't wait to be honest. But I have a lot to get done before we set off. Just spent £500 at Rimmer Bros. and another £230 at bell engineering, plus it needs 4 new tyres.

But in the grand scheme of things, at still a lot less than a friend of mine who's paying £800 a month PCP on his VW camper! Crazy!
