The phone number worked. I called bugger twice and got an address in Southbourne near Porstmouth. Clivees gave me a lift and when we got to the address the poor bloke there had never heard of a "Nathan". This was the third appearance of an ebayer at his address (which is rented). One of the others has appeared to buy a boat.
So no money lost except petrol and time wasted.
I've obviously reported the sale as a scam to fleabay but there is little they can do as the seller doesn't exist.

The number still exists and the idiot is still answering it. So auto dial setup on a modem with 141 as the prefix. This should annoy the ****er :D

ere - int there a bit on the interweb thingy for using satellites to trace a mobile phone number (used fur checkin up on yo kids are aunties) - yu could use that to trace the bastid.....

You can subscribe to a system that lets you track your mobile phone. So I suppose you could subscribe using his mobile phone number and find him that way.

i've just called that number - a southern sounding bloke answered

me - hi is that Nathan?
him - pause ermmmmm no he's not here at the momment
me - could you tell me when he will be back?
him - ermmm i dont know, who is this?
me - my name is sargent jones from the portmouth police and i am investigating a report of fraud regarding the sale of motor vehicles
him - pause - ermmm erm well i dont sell cars
me - so Nathan have you recently advertised a vehicle on ebay ?
him - no mate
me - well unfortuantly for you we have received a report of an attempted fraud regarding the sale of a motor vehicle via ebay and i would be obliged if you could report to your nearest police station and quote incident number 32897 so that we can conduct an interview with you regarding this case
him - ermmmmm big pause - i'm going on holiday for a month today
me - you have 24 hours to do so or we will be visitng the address that this number is registered to - additionally i am obliged by the data protrection act to inform you that this conversation is being monitored and the location of your mobile phone signal is being traced .......

at that point the line went dead

lets hope he either does walk into a cop shop or at the very least he has a few sleepless nights

i'll give him another ring about middnight to ask if he is going to come to the cop shop or do "we" have to go collect him

Bloody marvellous! :D :D :D

You know you can submit a contact details request to ebay & they give you the sellers addy. He gets informed but you have the right to do it. Not sure they'll be that keen now you've informed them of dodgy dealings, but it's worth a go.

Let me know if you do find an address Pat. Grippseybabes likes visits to people like that. ;)

unfortuantly all of the phone tracking systems rely on a "acceptance" from the users phone

"Received a text like this? 'R Jones (07970 111111) has asked to locate your mobile. Please reply '1074da' to agree. More information at www.followus.co.uk' This means that R Jones wants to track your mobile phone. Before he can, you must activate your mobile phone for tracking, by replying with the PIN number supplied in the original message you received. If you don’t reply with this PIN, then your mobile will not be located. See Step 3 or Step 4 of the Help document for more information."
