Ok, I've searched and searched and can't find any problems the same as the one I've got.
If I leave my 300tdi unlocked for a few minutes, when I try to start it the engine is immobilised and it won't start. Key symbol lights up, etc.
If I press either of the key fob buttons, it'll start.
If I lock the car with the fob when I get out and unlock it to get back in, it'll start no problem.
It's no big deal, because it will stil start once I've activated the fob, but there's something wrong somewhere and it's bugging me.

Is your key on a "long" key chain?

Is this a new problem?

Could be the immobiliser ring circuit ( could not remember the name of the dang thing) is not energising allowing the fob to work properly.

Search harder ;) all the info is in your owners handbook. There's nothing wrong, press the unlock button or move the fob closer to the ignition switch if the key symbol is illuminated.

The key isn't on a long chain and is always close to the ignition switch. It always used to work fine, even when I left the car unlocked. I'll refer back to my hand book.

In that case sounds like your passive coil is having a headache, maybe also worthwhile changing the battery in the fob, do you have a spare fob to try?

Cheers

I've got two fobs, neither of them is great. I had to solder one to make it work again. I've tried new batteries in both.
