hi guys another issue on my list is the heated seats i know common prob i have done the fuse thing there is continuity going to them so it needs new elements . i have seen the how to guides but its still beyond my ability do you know of anyone in lincolnshire or nottinghamshire who can do this for me because every specialist i have spoke to seems to know nothing about it ? and its cold lol
 
I know the feeling.

Someone could make a fortune doing these. And HEVAC repairs. And EAS valve block rebuilds etc.

Come on someone! Get yer finger out!
 
its not even hard to do the seats, some one with a physical difficulty may struggle but for an able bodied person its got to be one of the easiest jobs, get the seat out, take it into the warmth, her indoors loves it when i fix stuff on the dining table.

peel the material back on the sides after removing base frame and clips, cut the material where the leather meets the base, and where the rib is at the front so you get room to pull the cable through but it doesnt make the material baggy on the seat.

solder and cove the wire, push it back in and re build seat, job done!

I'd still rather pay someone to do it. Upholstery is scary.

I've got an Astra go kart as a hire car at the mo (due to my previously moaned about broken air spring) and it's got luverly heated leather seats....

I have an early P38 ( M Reg) light illumimates when u turn them on.
But the seats never warm up at all
do i need to buy new elements or are they repairable with a soldering iron

don't go putting it on the wifes best furniture, you will end up with a divorce on your hands as the base bracket can ge a little sharp!!!

make sure you cover whatever you decide to place the seat on as it may pull the carpet too!!!

maybe taking it in garage or covering a tiled floor with an old duvet or carpet!???

its definately worth doing tho!

there are other resources too, once all the bits are obtained the hardest bit is to manufacture a bracket and/or getting the wires into the passenger compartment!:cool::cool:
 
I'm an upholsterer and I assure you, as Gav says, this is not hard at all.

The only tricky part is getting the hog rings off and putting them back on without the correct tools, but it can be done.

With some new hog rings and hog ring pliers, you simply cut the old rings and replace with new.

Take your time, and its easy to do.

Put a new thermostat in there while your on, and you will get really hot seats.

Where does one get an uprated thermostat from? I keep hearing it being recommended, but I don't know where to get one from.
 
Not sure without investigating myself. But I would definately replace them, as the standard heated seats are not very warm at all.
 
you will burn out the seat back elemant if you do that mod!!!!

There are seat back elements?
I think I need to follow this up - also, mine never tires of telling me that the seat heaters are faulty on the dashboard display.
