Hi, ive just discovered that a change in the law means that if you own a vehicle with tax it MUST have insurance even if kept on private land.
My dilema is I also own a Discovery that is taxed and MOTed but currently not insured.
We have recently bought a golf to replace the disco as our everyday runner as running costs were becoming too high. It is fully road legal as we have transferred our insurance onto the golf.
My plan was to keep the disco TAXed and tested as my off roading toy and only add it for a day onto my golfs insurance as and when i went playing. I thought this would in the long run be cheaper than insuring it for the year when i may only go out in it a few times however I would now run the risk of getting fined.
I cant afford to insure both vehicles all year round so was wondering how I can get around this. One idea I had was to get anyone I know (maybe my old man) to get insured on it as it would be a lot cheaper than me doing it) paying him and then as im fully comp on the VW I can drive it 3rd party .
I know its not ideal but it'll be a cheaper option than me getting insured on it.
This seems a stupid law to me as I imagine there are a few 4X4s out there that are Taxed and tested and are only insured as and when they are needed.
Not sure what to do, any suggestions very welcome as the alternative is to sell the disco.
Cheers
