Hi there, I apologise in advance for yet another flashing M&S light issue.
The vehicle is 51 plate Disco2, the two lights are flashing and vehicle is pretty much in permanent limp mode.
It had a new XYZ switch a couple of years a go.
Error code (read on a Delphi device)is attached and shows Solenoid valve 1 / short to ground, open circuit.

Ive read as much as I can in advance and so far got to the stage where the exhaust is off, XYZ is removed it looks clean and the connection looks good.
As per a previous post Im now trying to check the loom that runs over the transfer box and through the P clip. Ive used a mirror to make an initial check and it looks oh, but I cant be 100 percent sure. There was some mention of being able to access the loom by removing the centre console which I have done, but unless I'm missing something there is still no way of checking the loom easily from the top? Even if I manage to undo the P clip from underneath, I'm not sure how to remove the loom to properly check it.
Any help with that please?
If the loom is ok, does the fault code suggest my next step is to strip the box down and have a look at the solenoids?
I'll have to research that if is the case, it may be above my pay grade lol.
Any help is much appreciated. Many thanks.

Have you had all codes reset since the battery was changed?
Even though it's a new battery, it's worth checking it's actually ok. Measure the voltage drop across the battery terminals while you have someone start the car, then see what the reading goes up to once it's running

Hi there, yes I've had the codes reset, ran the vehicle and almost immediately back into limp. Admittedly I've not measure voltage since the new battery was fitted for either cranking or whilst running. I'll have to do that tomorrow and report back. Thanks.

Hi, I think the chaffed wires through the P clip are inside the insulation so it can look ok from the outside but there might be a problem 'inside' @Stanleysteamer knows about this if you search his posts or I'm sure he'll be more than happy to give you the low down. Unfortunately the pic is to small to read, try 'FULL image'
Hopefully stan will be along to explain.

Great, thankyou, I was looking for a full break in the insulation. I'm a bit flummoxed on how to get the loom out, could do with a steer on that, I'll message him if he doesn't see this first, thanks.

Hi, if we consider that the scanner you have is accurate(which might be doubtfull), clear the code, unplug the connector from the valve block then read codes again, you'll have to get open circuit for all 3 solenoids and if it's so the loom might be OK and the problem is actually the solenoid itself, with a proper dedicated diagnostic tool you can run cicuit tests for the solenoids to hear them clicking on command, a solenoid can be changed with box in situ but some skills are needed to refit the valve block cos there is a mechanical part which must be aligned. Read this whole thread No drive after valve block change

I had this '"feature" on mine, it only occurred in or after driving in wet conditions.

Removed the gearbox loom and it was rubbing on the sharp front corner of the T box, repaired the loom and has been fine since.

Thank you, I'll have a read.

Hi there, want to check the loom properly but struggling to get to it. All disconnected at the bottom and was hoping to get to it via the top, but even with the console out, its flummoxed me a bit? any pointers please?

Having read the post I'll have to reassemble the vehicle and get it to some one with either Nanocom or Hawkeye (are these ok?), I was hoping to check the loom first tho for any obvious damage?

Nothing to add to this as Andy has summed it all up.
There is a thread on this with some good pics which show how the bared wires can be hidden deep within the loom and totally not obvious on preliminary inspection. As I'm on holiday away from my pooter I can't easily search for the thread with the pics. But if you search hard enough using Google as it will shove you more accurately back into the correct place on LZ, you ought to be able to find it!
Best of luck mate!

Thank you, I'll have a good search through.

Found it now, thanks for the steer. On the detailed post the guy threads the loom through from the console. I'll have a go tomorrow. You've mentioned drilling out the rivets of the panel holding the gear selector on one of your posts, I reckon I'll have a look at that as well. Thanks for your help.

Just an update, found this very small break in one of the cables.
Disco loom.jpg

It was hardly visible, but bare.
Done a solder repair and put it all back together, been for a test run this morning and it all seems good.
Praying that this was the problem and its now fixed.
Thanks very much for all your help.
