so had an engine knock since i bought the landy about 2 months, been going through bits and bobs to make sure everything is good, however ive got a knock, i had the hose pipe out and listened round engine bay and checked everything i had found in this forum, but in the end i found it was coming from the second exshaust port on the manifold, now im 90% sure its not a gasket issue on the manifold, im suspecting its an injector fault, what do you guys think?

The exhaust/intake gasket is a common failure on the 300 (it starts breaking up), not to difficult to replace if you are semi-proficient with tools. Certainly worth a look before pulling injectors.

Yeah ive heard of the gasket breaking down. I just dont think it sounds like it. No harm in ordering one and chucking a new one on even if its ok I suppose.

If you are fairly confident the gasket is ok you could alway try transposing No 2 and No 4 injectors and see if the noise moves to No 4 exhaust (make sure you use new genuine sealing washers for the injector/head joint). Something else that is worth looking at is the valve clearances, its not uncommon for the valve sten caps to wear through and fall out which will give you excessive valve clearances. Worth checking all the clearances anyway if you haven't done so already.

try cracking off one the injector at a time (balance check ) while engine is running the engine will run rough but your looking for different sounds or like Kwakerman said swap over a few injectors see if the sound changes location

depends what kind of knock is it a diesel knock or is there combustion escaping out of the valves also is there any unusual colour of smoke coming out of the exhaust
you will probly find an injector nozzle tip blocked or worn

I cant remember it was that long ago but some mechanical fuel pumps also run a small gauze screen filter hidden inside the banjo threads these are normally in place incase the fuel filter media lets go and saves the fuel pump and injectors if you don't have the corre

it is good practice to keep check on valve clearences normally when the valve cap wears this means there will be a rattle inside the rocker cover area

if your adjustment specs seem to tight means the valve and valve seat is worn as the valve is now sitting further into the head
