I keep reading what a waste of time this EGR valve thingy is and thinks I need to get rid of it fast. I've tapped in on the search engine EGR valve and 9 pages come up. I've also watched a you tube video lasting 10 mins on dismantling/installing the blanking off kit. Can someone post a link for the complete idiots guide on getting rid of it and save me a little time reading 9 pages worth. Also I'm gonna need a quality blanking off kit if someone can give me a decent link. Thanks chappies :) Edit:- Just seen the EGR blanking mod at the top of page. Idiot

be right easy on the td4/m47r ..
4bolts plus a clip-screw removes the old egr valve
the delete units simply bolts-in to replace the old one
re-connect the intercooler hose and your on your way )

oh .. and you need to block off the now unused egr vacuum hose

the egr delete units that have the mushroom shape that connects to the egr exhaust feed
are better ( as have read on ere about some that don't have that exhaust-blank connector thing )
here's a pic of one egr-delete-unit :

Remove the egr valve, clean it out, and refit it. Then block the vacuum pipe off to disable it.
Did this to mine 9 years ago and it's been as clean as a whistle since, I also did the crankcase vent mod as well.

Thanks for the replies gents. I'll start with the blanking mod first. I'm not confident after lifting the bonnet :(

Got an Allisport EGR removal kit if you want, removed it before selling the Freelander a couple of months ago?

Thanks Mr Litch but I ordered one through eBay. I'll pm you if the eBay one don't arrive but can't see that happening.

Can anyone confirm whether the new blanking valve will need a gasket?
if the old one is in good shape .. leave it on
( that's from prev. egr delete posts .. )
left mine on .. did the egr delete at 37k miles ..
no problems with it

Is it possible to use the kit I've bought and use one of the round discs to blank of the pipe from the exhaust feed?
Looking at this you tube clip around the 8 minute mark you can see what looks like the cooler (if thats what its called) attached to that bendy pipe . The picture of my engine looks nothing like that. The pipe from the egr disappears under the engineIMG_20161113_114742149.jpg

That'll be an automatic transmission TD4. Only autos have the EG cooler. If your EGR bypass looks like the one in the video, then it'll fit just fine. Looking at yours, it doesn't have the mushroom shaped pipe holder, so don't use it. You're EGR flexible pipe will crack as it needs support from the mushroom. There are kits about that don't have the mushroom shaped support, incorrectly labeled as TD4, but they are not correct. Use the one that was linked at the top of your thread. Don't use the one you bought, it'll make hours of work for yourself, when the flexible pipe breaks.
