SHould be a nice easy one to answer this!

Just found a garage selling bio diesel 10p a litre cheaper than ordinary diesel, so could be a good start!

My question is "can I run my 1998 300tdi on bio diesel without doing any mods to it?" ie go to the garage fill up and drive off with no probs.

Or! do i need to mix it ordinary diesel.

Secondly apart from the cost are there any other benefits from me running Bio?

Try adding ten gallons of the Bio to about a quarter tank of diesel.

You will like it so much you will go 100% next time.

Hi on my 95 300tdi it would only run on bio-diesel when mixed with regular diesel, it used to stall at junctions and smoke abit, but ok when mixed, I guess the ratio they mix the bio diesel at makes a difference too ?

running my 200 on 100% bio no probs just a bit lumpy for 30 seconds first thing and its only 76p a litre

That is probably because the tickover speed control is incorrectly set on your injection pump.

Biodiesel ALWAYS produces LESS smoke than any ordinary diesel. Your engine has a fault.

Are you referring to BIODIESEL or Vegetable OIL ?

There is a HUGE difference. They are NOT one and the same thing!

Biodiesel is Vegetable Oil that has been put though a process called transesterification, which fundamentally changes the nature of the oil molecules, and makes it very suitable for our engines.

Learn the difference.

I make biodiesel here for my cars. under 30 pence a litre to do it.

And no worries about tax now.

Way to go.

It was sold to me as bio diesel but alot of people had problems useing it, I have an old 84 fourtrak and that runs on anything but smoked bad when i ran it on bio, It was about 2 years ago and they have since stopped selling it so I guess there was something wrong with how they made it, there is a new place in town selling it now so going to try it again and see what happens this time.

I have a 94 300 tdi auto disco.Had about a quarter of a tank pump diesel and filled up with 50 quids worth of so called bio diesel from a place in rochdale. Drove round the corner stalled at junction. Started but ran rough all the way back to stockport. It then splutered and would not go any faster than walking pace and would not rev up.Got r.a.c to recover to mates garage he pumped it out of tank and said it was far to thick to go through injectors .Dont think Ill bother with them again but might try s.v.o and diesel mix when warmer weather . This was a costly venture in fuel saving.

aup mate, never tried bio, but been runnin mine on 50% veg oil for about a mounth now, runs fine when it's warmed up for about a min,
bit lumpy to start a bit of smoke for first 5 or 10 seconds but smells fantastic

give it a go, at least you know whats goin in your tank

Daft question but, where can i buy veg oil from and how much does it cost?

Don't mind my truck smelling like a chippy so long as it runs cheaper that it is now.

Right then time to fill up with crisp & dry, at least then I can do the kitchen towel test on the exhaust and it should leave no grease stains ha ha

use PURE rape seed oil PURE sunflower oil, don't use olive oil!
check the label for additives! if there's any anti-foamers its no good,
and don't forget to keep a couple of spare fuel filters in the boot(just incase it blocks sooner than you expect)
and finally don't forget to change your fuel filter after about 500 veg miles to start.
