Hi All

My wifes Range Rover is a lovely L322 year 2005, 3.0 Diesel BMW Diesel.

So as we know the L322 likes to eat batteries. I replaced the battery about 1 year ago with a good quality VARTA Battery and all has been okay until the recent cold weather and with Covid lock down not being able to go anywhere.

I use a trickle charger, but sometimes this still is not quite enough therefore I have ordered ordered another battery YBX5019 Yuasa Silver High Performance Car Battery 12V 100Ah HSB019, I think my current VARTA battery is okay still and will keep as a spare charged up in the garage.

Also I have read through the posts on causes of battery drains and most seem to point to the infamous:

HEATER BLOWER FAN RESISTOR MOTOR REGULATOR HEDGEHOG .

Therefore I have also ordered one of these but I have a question that I would like some advice on.

The reason I am looking at changing the resistor is that I noticed when I was sitting on the car without the key in the ignition, I could hear what I think was part of the heater matrix system coming on and off, its like a faint low hum. I therefore surmise that this could be caused by a faulty heater fan resistor hence why I thought to change, would you agree?

Thank in advance

What trim level is your l322 if its a vogue they need the biggest battery you can fit normaly an MF31 120ah 1000cca it only just fits with a couple of mm to spair, 100ah may well be a tad small.

Also, check your DSP unit, Mine has the Alpine DSP Amplifier in the nearside boot section that wasn't turning off. It must of been the original Head Unit that was still sending 12V to it. I have since installed a Android head unit which turns the amp off normally, this can be checked by seeing if the 12V disappears on the white wire in the multiconnector into the DSP Amp (If yours is the Alpine Unit with single connector)

Excellent advice thanks i will check what connector I have

So I have changed the fan resistor and to my surprise the one I removed was a replacement type by company called Systronic, (does anyone know what the resistance should be to check if its bad?)
Its early days to tell if the new resistor will fix the drain, but on the subject of the little red led light at Park near the shift it turned off after 15 mins of it being locked which is a good sign. Also the radio sometimes has the orange light flashing on the knob sometimes and noticed that this is now not flashing too.

Thanks

Welcome, it's risky mentioning knobs and flashing on here, especially if @holidaychicken is online.:D
