Hi,

Yesterday my engine developed a high pitch whine/whistle at idle. It doesnt change frequency with revs, it just get louder at idle, and seems to get a bit quieter when driving. It's loud, and seems to be coming from one of the heads (but i'm not sure about this)

Anyone experienced anything like this before??

Its defo not gearbox, trans, diffs etc. I'm completely confused! Sounds like a vacume leak or something, but i cant find it.

HELP!!!!

carbs - weber 500 on edlebrook intake. I've tighten down all the intake bolts, tightenen the carb bolts, sprayed carb spray round the whole thing, no leaks, i've checked the right bank rocker cover breather.

My next port of call is to see if there is a breather at the rear of my engine.

I've noticed that it does get quieter at about 2000 RPM

Get a piece of pipe up to your ear and the other end directed down where you hear the noise. Should enable you to isolate where it's coming from a little more.

could be hard to narrow down, bad alternator can go tight and squeel,as above get a length of hose pipe and aim around engine bay-touch the varius components to try and isolate the tone..
check the vac connection on the inlet manifiold that sure will whistle if it is open!
