Hi guys,

I'm struggling to find a double din android car play that will fit my landrover defender 110 2003 td5. I've also looked a single din retractable ones.

Also thinking about new speakers.

Any recommendations please?

Pictures would be great 👍

Thanks

I did a lot of research into this as my TD5 never had a radio fitted at all. The standard hole in the dash is not the correct size for a double din so you need to buy a new facia panel that is or modify the current dash. At the time I was looking the MUD stuff one looked to be the best: LINK. Raptor also do one but it is a panel that goes over the existing dashboard rather than replace it and you then cut away the original.
There are also threads about where people have modified the standard one to be a double din but it looks like a lot of work cutting filling filing etc. but would be a lot cheaper than the very expensive new panel.

Once you have the correct dash panel to accept a double din you can then choose any android carplay double din radio model you want as they should all be a standard size.

As for specific recommendations for stereo and speakers I did not bother in the end as it was all adding up to be quite expensive. In the 110 I have two speakers in the head lining just above the seat belt which are conveniently next to your ears but this is not the factory locations because again it did not have a radio fitted. What is your starting point? if it is nothing you have a lot of options and scope, if you have one fitted currently and are looking to upgrade it is different as you will already have speaker in the lower dash.

Thanks dag,

Yes I have already a good single din pioneer system CD player but I do want to upgrade to a DAB android car play.
Iam understanding your woes with your research as there are many options.
I'm thinking of a retractable single din that is dab and has car play this will avoid the need for an over priced replacement panel.
My price guide is around the £500 that will include everything.

Thanks for your advice

What about a single din with a fixed screen like this. OK its a D2 but you get the idea.

Make sure you get the additional fitting kit and bare in mind it might interfere with button on the dash above it, or even gear lever come to think of it if you have big fat hands!

I would first and foremost thing carefully about what you require in a system. In the 110 my requirements was bluetooth connectivity for two phones and an external microphone (200tdi) that was it. did not need cd did not need dab, radio etc as everything is played through my phone and I needed to be able to connect my work phone as well. similarly when I was looking at double din my requirement was carplay only. For me all music comes through my phone. The only reason I question this is your requirement for DAB will require an additional/new ariel whereas if it has carplay you can do all of that through your phone? also not having a CD as a requirement makes the unit a lot smaller physically.

This was why I ended up not bothering in the end. I was working on a similar budget but was not willing to compromise. If I was going to do it I wanted the proper dash panel and a bluetooth carplay which at he time blew the budget before I even started looking at needing to fit speakers etc.
