Hi all thanks for accepting me to the forum .
I purchased a 2017 Sport 3l yesterday and found out I needed to have my phone wired to use android auto.
Is there an adaptor I can purchase to avoid the wire ? If so any recomendations? I've seen something called the ottocast but there appears to be loads of variants.
TIA

Wont it work via Bluetooth?
Was yours switched on?

I would assume at that age Bluetooth would be possible although don't know for sure.
I can obviously Bluetooth to the car ... however for android auto it seems.to need the cable ... when I unplug cable it stops working . Maybe I'm doing something wrong ?

We have an Invery dongle thing(in our 2011) so no wires needed but we are apple. but worth a look on their site.

But it doesnt use the car screen.

@Blob did a thing to the head unit (wasnt cheap)

I would have thought the 2017 was better but maybe not:oops:

It appears not guys I've ordered a cheap dongle from e Bay to see how I go .... but I'd of certainly thought there was no need to use a cable in this model , but hey what do I know ... very little generally 😉

If it has Android Auto already then the issue is just wireless connectivity rather than adding functionality. You'll need an adapter and it seems that you've bought one already to just emulate the phone being physically plugged in by cable. I have one in one of my cars, it's ok.

To the point of 2017> having that functionality, a friend of mine has recently got a 2024 Volvo XC90 as a company car and even that only works with the cable plugged in or a cheap wireless adapter! The fact that you have AA/CarPlay on a 2017 car at all is excellent.
