Its a bit further away than 200kms - looks like its in Mot so thats over 400kms!

Waiting to see what the story is with the 2WD, not sure what has actually been done. To add an electric motor, my plan is to also use a TD4 or similar long term. This one may just be used to fill in a bit of spare time and sell on to build more money for the long term plan.

I drove my mother-in-law's 2001 V6 on Saturday. It's completely different to my 2005 TD4. The V6 is so quiet by comparison to the TD4. It's not just the engine noise either. My TD4 rattles from loose trim and general noise, where the earlier V6 doesn't. I'm sure the vibration of the TD4 engine makes everything else loose.
If I could justify the sub 20Mpg the V6 offers. That's what I'd be driving.
The V6 is just a more refined package imho.

Would the Subey not lug it back? Admittedly Motueka is a tad further than Sockburn!

The main players look to be wanting almost $700 to bring it down from Mot. If it was from Nelson it would only be just over $400 - maybe we could push it to Nelson!

First quote in from O'Briens is $450. Waiting for a quote from mot.

Thinking or trailer and the Forester...

- Trailer hire 2+days about $250
- Accom + meals about $200
- Fuel about $150+

Most likely will get it transported.

Very initial observations...

Very tidy and straight
Interior is very good, apart from compulsory head lining sagging in the back
Sunroof works!
So called conversion to 2WD is just the complete driveshaft assembly off, issue is that it has a compliance plate for 2WD fitted so if I put the driveshaft back on I need to spend $NZ400 to get it recomplied.
Engine is supposed to be stuffed and smoky, but it is running fine, clean pipe, only obvious issue is that it seems overfull of oil.
Coolant is nice and green, no sign of brown in the clean expansion tank.
Has done 211K Kms but no indication of cam belt change

Just to remind me that it is a Freelander...

You can take the rear door handle cowling off my parts car if you like - I'd prefer to keep the switch gubbins if pos.

Is it road worthy? A good drive up Dyers Pass and stop at Sign of the Kiwi will probably show if there's any problems with the engine!

It is woffed and rego'ed. Only driven it into our place but will go for a wee drive tomorrow.

So far I am a bit stunned as to it's condition.

Absolutely and completely not required. Took it for quite a run this morning, only problem is that it seems a bit sluggish. I suspect the inlet manifold VIS is clogged up or one of the VIS motors is stuck - they get clogged up with muck from the crankcase vent system over time.

Later today I will put the OBD reader on it and see if there are any codes. Also lift the top cover off and have a look.
 
Only ODB code was a misfire on number 3 cylinder. Found the plug was tracking over on the outside, must have been some moisture or crud in there at some stage.

Cleaned it up, scraped the carbon track from inside the plug boot and coated the inside with silicon grease. All good and it goes like a rocket!

However......

So much for my project, a guy connected with me through a mate that knew I was into Freelanders. I am now no longer the owner of a Freelander and have $3500 in the bank.

I keep getting excited about your projects. Then you sell them before the really exciting bit begins. ;)
