Here’s an odd one - 300tdi.
I’ve noticed before that when I run the Landy the engine can be a bit noisy, but if it’s been run for a while then left an hour or so, it seems much quieter!
Tried it again today, 20min run, left it for 11/2 hours, and a lot quieter when I started it again! Any ideas?
Maybe I’m imagining it, but don’t think so.
Hopeful Steve

With the tdi's they do tend to change tone [ go quieter when warm ] Engine will not have cooled right down in an hour.

I know what you mean, but it is definitely more quiet when I start it up (after a hour or so) then when I stopped it (when it would have been hotter), I was thinking maybe something was releasing after prolonged heat, I know it seems weird but it happens all the time!

What grade oil are you using?

As well as the engine still being warm there will still be more oil in the upper parts of the engine, providing more protection against metal verses metal noise. Than you would get if you left the engine overnight to allow the oil to drain totally.

20 min run, the oil might not get up to temp? Leave it for an hour or 2 and it will absorb heat from the engine while it's off
