Hi all, have any of you got a simple diagram on how to wire up a battery volt gauge to a series 3. Many thanks

Do you mean a voltmeter or an ammeter (as in the title)?

They measure different things, and are wired very differently.

A voltmeter is the most usual way of seeing what's happening with the charge in any vaguely modern vehicle, and far easier to fit. Ammeters pretty much died out with dynamos.

I dunno, an amp meter would be quite useful if you knew what you were looking at - if you know the charge rate on the alternator and the drain rate of all your toys you know how hard the alternator is working... volt meter just tells you if the battery is f**ked

you need to wire the ammeter directly between the battery and any load, so everything passes through it to be useful.

that's a lot of juice going to a lil readout on your dash or some shunt somewhere.

Sorry for the confusing post, it's a volt meter! Your replies are a massive help. Just notice it also has a red cable for the light display. Where does this go?? Thanks everyone

Connect to red rest of dash lights originally on own switch but could be on with sidelights.
Voltmeter also tells you if alternator working.
