Hi. The battery light is staying on until I rev the engine then it goes out. I am assuming alternator is failing.
I have changed the alternator in my series 3 very easily. Is this a home fix I can do on the Freelander quite easily or do I need to fork out for a garage?
Freelander 1.8k series 2003

Thanks

Can be a bit awkward lifting the alternator in and out but in the grand scheme of things, as Nodge says, very easy.

Well before ripping it out I went to check it all and the cable had snapped off the top and was just making contact when I revved with the vibrations. Have done a temp fix in the dark and will examine in the daylight. At least I don't need a new alternator just yet!

and another way to check is to wait until dark have the engine running and switch on everything and then press on the foot brake if you see the ignition glowing then it is the alternator or at least the diode pack,

nip round to my house & put the new one i have bought,i
would have a go myself but just been diagnosed with a

Oh well my temporary fix has obviously buggered up somewhere! All three warning lights are constantly on think there is an electrical short or something somewhere! I'll have to spend the weekend working on that

I have a bad heart a leaking valve and a seriously bad back (adhesive arachnoiditis) I need a knew knee this will be soon I hope I am full of the old author around my joints but if needed I would change my alternator but often the son in law will step in as I am always buying him tools .

hi mate same here k--ckered,just taken sump guard off
today n im all in,what is arachnoiditis first thought about
arachnaphobia,(fear of spiders).cant be that though.
hope you get your knee done soon fella its a sod when
they pop in & out. i have not worked on a FL before so
a bit new to them, seem a bit awkward to me,ive worked
on defenders,series & discos,also a v8 but the FL looks
a bit tight to work on.
regards stan.

Adhesive arachnoiditis was caused by having dye pumped into my spine to take a mylography x ray this was due to me breaking my neck and back in 1974 now they have cat scans so do not need to use the dye it any more and also it was banned in 1988.this dye slowly destroys the nerves in the spinal cord and is 24/7 constant pain. ever likely I make mistakes sometimes when I re-read my reply I have to laugh what I have put.
