stopped at red light saw steam coming from under bonnet, quick glance at temp gauge still sat in middle so not overheat. pulled in called AA came out found broken fan belt. but water was gushing out from under rad. now what caused fan belt to break seized water pump siezed alternator or am i in real trouble? please help

they said it could be alternator or water pump but the worrying thing is the water gushing out and from where i dont know just that is was under the radiator

No belt = no water pump = overheat = water out of expansion tank. Or belt could have bust the rad when it went AWOL.

see if you cant turn the alternator and water pump by hand with not too much effort if you can they might be ok if not they are fooked.

if they are ok put the belt on and run it up and look for leaks.

well the AA took 4 hours to get me home and its parked up at a lopcal garage and will keep you posted with the good or bad news and the cost lol ouch

as Datatek says the bust belt might have taken out the rad or the bottom hose get under and have a look could be the hose/stat housing

well i could get it back from the garage is it a big job to take rad out and check the alternator and water pump and put on new belt i have no garage so its side of the road job?

My belt failed earlier in the year but before it gave out a bit splintered off and thrashed the hell out of the underside of the top radiator hose. I know it sounds simple but it took me days to work out where the leak was.
By the way pulling the radiator isn't complicated at all and when that and the viscous fan is out out you have tons of room to play with the water pump and other peripherals.

I can get the rad out and fan off in about 15 mins took a bit longer first time I would ask them to give you a quote remember a new rad is about 120 hoses are not dear but then your rad might be good
