Yes it's very simple, first you need a light bulb, then a hamsters wheel and finally a hamster.

could test a hamster first then an alternator. the only test for a hamster i know is to stick a screwdriver through its head and see how long it riggles for but dont know any ways to test an alt

this do ya?

but if yu dont have a motor, a load, voltmeter etc - dont bother - take it to a professional.

If you don't know what yer doing I would advise taking it to an auto electrician and getting them to do it for you.

More important than that is a bench clamp and a gaurd. If an alternator breaks loose it might just hurt if it hits yer.:eek::eek:

got a heavy duty drill that will do 3000rpm , i have a workshop with a whole host of bench vices etc all that side isnt a problem. im just not that up on electrics really. ill try and replicate that diagram. its just when i put a multimeter on my battery in my landy at reads 11.5 v and doesnt go up even when its revved and i have 4 spare alternators inc 100 amp one but the first 2 ive tried on read the same reading dont know wot the prob is

have you checked the exciter wire?

Don't you need a spare in case the first one dies of exhaustion or gets electrocuted or summit?:D
No. Because alternators are DC you only need one to turn the wheel one way. If you wanted to test for AC then you would need two hamsters to run in opposite directions in the wheel.;)

just either take the car to halfrauds or similar - or take the Alternator to a specialist - its not worth the time and effort to do it yoself.

Alternators arent DC - they are rectified AC and have a ripple current.
