Hi there, I have a 1994 Defender 90, 200TDI

What the problem is my truck was left for about a week standing, i came to start it on the friday, started fine but then i noticed the battery light was on dim, when i revved the engine it faded out. First thing i did was to check the voltage when the engine is running on tick over and it came out between 15 and 16 volts. Had a new alternator in about 3 months ago, and never had any problems until now

Any ideas, much appreciated

Thanks

right, can anyone sort me out i small diagram of where i should wire my alternator up (series chasis and loom)

i currently have one of the big spades connected to the live on the starter, but this isnt charging my battery, any ideas ?

right, the little wire, is that from the other big spade or the smaller spade ? i dont think its even a 200 alternator now !,

what colours the wire please ? as in in the series loom.

and surely if my starter works i have a good earth ?

small wire is the energiser. turn ignition on and earth the wire get someone to check if warning light comes on, on dash.

what colour is other big spade?

:nopics:

the 2 thick brown wires are battery lives often join battery cable at starter for ease can be joined together ,little wire brown with yellow tracer is ignition light wire

strange thing about wires to a 200 alternator.
mine has 3 wires, the main charge one, the warning light one, and another with a female & male spade connecter on its end.

long story but my alternator failed, never had a spare disco one, but used a volvo one after cutting down the fitting on the case, fitted, works well,
bought new disco one-still in its box in the boot along with new belt....

but, the 3rd wire is not being used at the moment,
but charges very well, i just connected the male to female to keep it out the way.

never did find out what the 3rd wire is used for - anyone?
