Gerrude our LWB Series III 2.25 petrol has started mucking about over starting. My problem is I am not sure if it is the Alternator or the battery.

I have cheaked the battery in the car with a multi meter arcoss the battery, it showed 12.6 on tick over and the same at 2,500 rpm.

I then cheaked the battery out of the car before giving it a slow "cook". The meter showed 12.6 disconnected and the same with the charger on (the charger alone showed 14.6)....
 
You should have over 14v with the engine running so sounds like you've a problem with the alt

Had to change Gertrude's cracked exhaust manifold.....surprisingly easy, but while off I did her fan belt and checked starter motor contacts. Voltmeter on battery at 2.8K RPM now 14.6!!!! Spot on! Now I'll watch battery for a few days to see if it behaves!!! What odds it does not!!!!
