Hi guys, I was driving home the other night when all might lights went out and the car eventually came to a stop with NDC, air sus and limp mode warnings. I tested the battery and it has 6volts so I got a new one, fitted it and tested before i connected it at around 12.5volts then tested it on the car with it running as around 11.3 volts which seems the alternator is not doing its job, would you agree?

So I'm in the process of weighting up my options them being, new from LR, Reconditioned, get it repaired by someone, or try to source a kit for it and do it myself.... pros and cons off all would be ace, and if you know prices even better!

Thanks, leon.

take it to the smallest scruffiest looking back street garage you can find and ask the oldest smelliest bloke in there to sort it

do remember the 2.5 dse is widely used i e omega and dmw 325td 525td im sure theres more theres a place in oldtrafford called middletons they supply the repair kits

That is probably the best ever advice given out on here for many a year.

The L322 doesn't use the 2.5 BMW engine does it? Exchange re-con or DIY it with a regulator, brushes and if needed a diode pack. Simple if you know a bit about mechanics:D

lol numbers mean nuffin to meh if u said it was a 4.4 then id no it was the Buick engine and yep can get the repair kits cost about £20 odd

sounds like regulator has gone, forgive my stupidity (drinking) but the alternator should have a model number on it. then you can find spares. Failing that an exchange from local motor factors may be cheaper than dealer. Avoid cheap re manufactured units from internet as crap.
lastly where are you?

The alternator on the M62 engine is a bit 'different' because it's water-cooled. Who said water & electricity don't mix :)
