Changing the coolant hoses and steel connector pipes (pipes were getting near end of life and the steel pipes I could see were rusting badly hence the colour of the water removed and the hose to the carb block was completely blocked with sludge) and struggled to get to the water pump inlet from the rad as the alternator bracket was in the way (and the oil filter) so decided to remove it. The mounting of the alternator has always looked odd as its got a fabricated bracket bolted to the bracket mounted to the engine and the alternator wobbles a bit, causing the belt to squeel occasionally. Anyway took it off and only the top 2 bolts were holding it on, so first job; I need the lower bolt which appears to be the same as the bolt nearest the centre of the engine - anyone know what thread and length I need (bolt on the right i the 2nd picture and the 3rd picture) ? The alternator bracket which is on a P6B engine with SD1 heads and inlet manifold although looks like its been cut and the new fabrication sits above it and the alternator attached to that. Second longer term job is to source an alternative alternator bracket so I can ditch the fabricated piece - its all in bits at the minute so can take pics when its back on which should be over the weekend, rain permitting.
