Ps still uncertain about if it will pass comp spec because its historic rights rear stays are in line with the chassis rails not too corners but I've been told that's OK as its previously been log booked

Jai I will get the definative answer on your roll bar Of Dennis (Logbook secretary) I take it the tag has been removed, do you know the old number or have the old book.
 
No tag I think I removed it oops!

I have the log book scanned in 069296 only CCV tho logged says class Seven but that would make it longer wheelbase? Unless classes changed (probably).

Although I think it's class Severn for comp safari now.

Dennis was the log book scruteneer on he log book last.
To be fair the worse case is I have to cut off the rear stays and move them out.

Today was a blow out the wife decided she wasn't baby sitting so we watched some trials and stuff. Managed to bend up a pair of rock sliders yet to be fitted and one side support. Stutab got some pipe a while ago and my bro pinched some off him and it's turned out to be like .2 or .4mm too thin wall thickness for the cage so I stole some of it for rock sliders/body mount. Bent 90 degree for the rear and will attach to he outrigger at he front. It's chilly out there!
 
About time I updated this. I have had the motor running and driven it a short distance, however one of the ign coil drivers has packed in so I have taken the ECU to bits to fit a new one.
I haven't done much else because as you can see we have dug out for a new drive and shipped in 140 tons of stone. I have also fabricated a tow bar drop plate for the truck so that I can fit a flexitow hitch. Some chaps in our club towing with trucks have shaken their caravan bodies of the chassis hence the hitch.
I had hoped that I would be trialing by now but there just seems to be an endless list of jobs that need doing, both on the project and other.

Tow bar drop plate looks great. Does that flex up and down?
 
I had the front dug out also, I can park my truck and 3 cars on the front. Yes the hitch is like an indespension, it is very stiff when you stand on it but apparrently they work and protect your caravan body mounts from fracturing.
 
Over that distance I can see the numbers would multiply up. how deep did you dig it?

The indespension makes sense. I was wondering about vertical simple harmonic motion setting in, that would be scary :eek:
 
They dug out 250 - 300 mm, there was two 3 ton diggers a dumper and a 8 wheeler grab lorry and it took 3 1/2 days.
The hitch on the truck is quite stiff, I think it just takes out the sting.

Crikey, that's a lot of machine and man hours. Worth it for a decent hard drive though. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the motor in the trials
 
Well it finally starts, I haven't set the timing, the mixture or balanced the ITB's but it runs.
 
Yes it is satisfying when it starts, very frustrating when it won't. Megasquirt is an interesting project on it's own but there is alot to learn.
Dave can keep his in one piece, the coil pack on mine was ok it was the coil driver circuit that I had built that was giving me trouble after I had sorted the crank signal out which needed a pullup resistor putting in the circuit.
 
Well Guys and Gals the day finally arrived. I had a whole day off-roading in the project. There are a few issues that need sorting, there are some areas of the ECU map that still need attention (the odd flat spot) and the brake pedal position needs altering. It seemed ok in the workshop but once me boot was covered in mud it became harder to keep my foot in the best position on the pedal, I might make some Rat Trap jobs like you get on a mounting bike.
Other than that it performed very well. The suspension is amazing and so is the steering. No probs with the cooling, kept good oil pressure and no leakes.
I haven't got a pressure washer yet so will take it to work and get the valeters to do it.
There will always be jobs to do to it but I suppose to all intents and purposes I can call it done.

I've been watching this project for ages. I'm so pleased you've actually managed to get it out for a drive at long last. The problems don't sound too serious. I usually have more fault finding and troubleshooting to do after doing a job with pretty much standard Land Rover Parts, never mind a complete custom job. So it looks like a success to me.
 
Thanks for the comments guys. Yes the problems are only small and now it has had some mapping done it sounds much better and with throttle bodies and a race flywheel it picks up instantly, a bit too quick at times and you need a deft touch on the throttle. I am going to take it to a rolling road near me that I have heard good things about, only thing is they can't do it for a few weeks and I fancy trialing at Easter.
