Should this system work with the key out? Mine does! It has started switching itself on! Just discovered it's been playing a cd since Sunday morning!

Mine does switch on manually without the key in, not sure if it should auto shut off so long after the ignition is switched off though, never checked.

Ah that's OK then. Never had a car where the stereo works without the key!

Just have a mystery as to why it randomly starts up!

Think someone else had this problem a week or two back
Think it was condensation then

I need to start reading every post before comenting :5biagree::rolleyes:

Thanks! How weird, some people say it works only on position 1, others say theirs work without the key! I defo have a condensation problem, so guessing this is the issue!

Mine only works with key in and agree it may be condensation issue.

Later ones work without the key, early ones need the key in position one, don't know when the change occured or why. My 2000 works with no key, the 96 scrapper needed the key.

probably included when they changed a few other stuff in 97/98

My 98 needs the key in.
What year was it built though?
My last rr was built 95 but was N reg
My currant has a S reg but was built feb 99 must have been registered the day it was finished
Unfortunately its not the original radio so dont know if it would work or not

Excerpt from Alpine Radio Instructions on Rave (1999 edition):

This unit is equipped with a 20 minute
time-out function. This enables the unit to be
switched on and then used for up to 20
minutes after the vehicle starter switch has
been turned to position ’0’, even if the key is
removed. This means that if a passenger is
to be left in the vehicle, music can be listened
to, without the security risk of leaving the
keys in the starter switch. At the end of the
20 minutes, the unit will switch off
automatically.

Although you switch the ignition off most radios have a live memory feed for the radio , so you don't lose the preset stations .
