Anyone who disagrees with you must be ignorant then.

22" wheels on a a P38 is hardly the same thing as a whale tale fitted to a 20 year old 1.4 Astra.

A bit of a presumtious statement there claiming any one who has a car which is not modified to your taste, is obviously from a poor or disadvantaged social background.

Oh come on Baz, I gave fair arguments on why big wheels and low profile tyres are nonsensical on a SUV (and in that sense no different from a huge wing on an old 1.4 Astra. The native aerodynamics of the car would foul the airflow enough for practically no useful downforce to be generated even if you could get it to go fast enough to need it). Not "Ooh you're ignorant if you disagree with me". Play fair. And I don't recall saying anything about "disadvantaged social backgrounds". Is that what you think of Astra drivers? What a funny quango-lingo term that is anyway!

Besides, I was being ironic, hence the ref to Pimms and the pip pip. Of course I think people should do what they want to their cars if it makes them happy and if I don't like it I'll look the other way. ;)

Chris, sorry your thread had started to digress. Wammers has given you the answer.

16" is the actual size engineered for and allows sufficient sidewall profile to deal with terrain while also ensuring the lazy luxurious ride that is the P38s hallmark (on air, I hasten to add!). Even the 18" hurricanes were a cosmetic enhancement for higher spec / facelift models and offered by the factory as only a very minor technical compromise. Any more is silly because you will never corner fast enough for sidewall flex to be a significant factor in your "lap-times". A tall 2 tonne SUV will lean too far or the tires will break traction causing TC and ABS to intervene and in the P38 you can't switch these off. The purpose of low profiles is track performance. The purpose of big wheels is to accommodate low profiles and also larger diameter brake discs. SUVs riding on low profiles, usually with regular brake discs showing through are about as pointless as a huge rear wing on a 20 year-old 1.4 litre Astra. They scream out "my owner is ignorant and just wants to look cool." A parvenu as they used to say.:behindsofa:

Right, off to top up the Pimms now. Pip pip. :)

Parvenu - someone from a low social position who has suddenly become rich or successful

I think you will find you did.

Getting back on the subject chaps, will 19" wheels off a discovery 3 still require spigot rings and longer nuts?

Cheers
Chris
