I’m looking to improve the heater on my 90 300tdi, I see that Allisport do a heater matrix that is twice the size of the standard. Has any one fitted one of these and if so did it make much difference, at over £200 I don’t want to spend that kind of money if there’s no going to be much improvement. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Is the engine reaching normal operating temperature?
At nil cost you could first check that your heater is operating properly and that the heat from the engine coolant passing through it (at about 88degrees when up to temp) is being channelled into the cab. Poorly set-up controls, leaks in the rubber seals and a blocked matrix are prime candidates for poor heater performance.

My 300TDi 90 soft-top is a daily driver and completely standard (viscous fan, no rad muff etc) yet the cab is always a warm and pleasant place to be regardless of the weather (250-Mile journey during the Beast From The East no problem).

All the standard stuff is working fine but as my 90 is van type it still take a fair time to warm up when it really cold, if the Allisport heater matrix made a significant difference its a fairly straight forward swap, but a bit costly, which is why I was interested to see if anyone on this forum had one fitted.

Put a partition behind the driver and keep what heat there is in the front. .It makes a big difference. ..

I don't think there's anything wrong with the standard size, it's the asthmatic blower I find to be limiting it, blowing quite a lot of heat out now I've added a second fan.

It's about time a metal bender on here mass produced a plug and play drop in heater for the 200/300 tdi which has a strong set of lungs. 2 water pipes and power socket done.

If everything is working correctly then that is the best solution.
I should of added in my earlier post that in winter my soft-top is fitted with a fume curtain, means I am heating the cab only (like a truckcab) and hence why it is sooooooo warm & cosy regardless of the weather. Being canvas, if I need to lean through into the back it is unclipped in a matter of seconds.
I know of more than one person who have fitted a canvas one to a hardtop but most people go DIY.

In the 110 CSW I plan to have a curtain made to keep the heat up front, top tip ;)

Tbh if your matrix is oiginal I would say a new std cheapie one and a new blower motor with some camping foam to make sure all the seals er seal! will be as good as it gets.

That’s all I did with the help of that video.
