hello everybody,
since i bought the disco(1995 300tdi) i've been locking the doors wi the key as neither of the remotes worked (1 button fobs), i assumed it was them that were knackered, however, i've just bought a new one(correct 1 for model no. etc) and the problem remains. i go through the programming sequence to the horn beep, press the remote and......... nothing happens! :( i've tried two ecu's with the same results. i've just tried disconecting/reconecting the battery, now the only difference is after the horn beeps the dash light stays lit, before it flashed constantly. locking the doors with the key arms the alarm as it should but i'd like the remote to work. any ideas?

If there 2 button fob's then from what i understand they have to be programmed by computer.

I'm told that on a 200tdi Under the bonnet on the drivers sides the wiring loom off the battery goes in to a length of cloth, inside this length on cloth is four wires which have a fuseable wire in them which is just soldered in place and is open the the water and dirt that gets inside the cloth. So the wire corrodes away and brakes. Clean them up resolder them together and seal the connections up and its up and running again.

Don't know if its the same on 300's though?

My 95 300TDI has 2 button fob's.

Have you got the correct frequency fob ? From memory there were 2 frequencies,418 and 433 mhz for UK market cars, only one of them is still available from LR.The other is E-bay or www.remotekey.com . The alarm Ecu's are marked with their frequency but I dont think the fobs are.

they are the correct 433mhz remotes to match the 433mhz ecu.

hi Karlo, i dunno if it's the same on a 300, i'll have a look tomorrow. my 300 is an early january 95 model so must've just missed out on the 2 button fobs  i followed another thread on the mud club site, with exactly the same problem i'm having but there's no conclusion in it. damn!:(

hope you dont mind me highjacking your thread but last night i parked up my disco, when i went to lockit with the remote, the battery was flat. 'no problem' ill lock it with the key, job done.
later i went to go out and used key to unlock and the alarm went off (10pm happy neighbours) when i opened the door. i couldnt silence it at all, after a few seconds it reset.
surely this shouldnt have happened, does anyone know where to look to sort this out.
i found another battery in my central heating controller!!, i only have one fob.
obviously i dont want this to happen again

well i've had a look and no cloth bit under the bonnet. so i joined the mudclub forum and pm'd the guy thet had the prob and he's not had any joy either. :) need to find some way of testing the remotes cause everything seems to work right up till they come into the equation. i think after new year i'll try these guys - Remote Key and see if they can help.
welcome to the thread graingermouse, cant shed any light i'm afraid, hope someone else can help. your system may need reprogramming now though. the routine is available somewhere for the 1 button fobs, the 2 button jobs need hooking up to a computer i believe. happy new year everybody, i think beer may be the best short term solution to this problem. :D

hello all, just to update for anyone alse having this problem, since my last post on the subject i bought a "new" LR remote on eblag only to find out that they havent made new ones for around six years and indeed it didnt work. fortunately i got a refund and then bought a new replacement from Remote Key Ltd yesterday. it arrived recorded delivery this morning, programmed it earlier and i now have remote central locking again. :D

I bought a fob from Remote Key too and my 200tdi now has remote locking again. Had no idea it should have it until I saw this thread and had a look under the dash for the box...

I can't open wyvern1500's link but it should read something like this.

For single button remotes only

NOTE: New handsets are supplied in pairs.
If a new handset is required, it will require
initialisation to the ECU using the
following procedure:

1. Starting conditions: ignition off, doors unlocked,
bonnet switch depressed.

2. Carry out instructions 3. to 9. within 8 seconds.

3. Switch ignition ON.

4. Switch ignition OFF.

5. Lock doors.

6. Unlock doors.

7. Release bonnet switch.

8. Switch ignition ON.

9. Switch ignition OFF.

If alarm is correctly accessed, horn will sound and
LED will light. It is now possible to programme two
handsets of correct frequency to vehicle alarm ECU.
This must be carried out within two minutes.

10. Press and hold down button on first handset until
dash LED flashes.

11. Repeat instruction 10. for second handset.

12. The LED will extinguish if both handsets have
been initialised correctly.
