It was a fail but VOSA deemed it an advisory for all of last year, because there was some discontent about it. The argument being is a car with an SRS lamp on and maybe the system not working any more dangerous than a car not fitted with SRS. The answer to that has to be no it isn't. So why it is still not an advisory i do not know.

Taking it for a long run should charge the battery above the point where it won't trigger the SRS when the engine is started, but the registered fault still needs to be cleared from the system, so you will still need diagnostics to reset the warning light/system (if low battery voltage is the cause of the SRS warning in your case).

Tis the new EU MOT rules, any warning lamp illuminated is an automatic fail now. Testers that are not familier with the ABS/TC lights on the P38 are going to be failing them left right and centre.

Yes Keith i know, but it was the new EU rule that VOSA introduced in Jan 2012. They are sort of drip feeding them. VOSA said it was to be advisory until further notice. Obviously the further notice expired in Jan this year. All of the EU rules as supposed to be in force on or before Jan 2014. So next year could be a real doozer.
That was also my understanding but if people are getting failed. Either VOSA has issued a directive or some test stations have got things wrong. The SRS warning lamp stuff was introduced in Jan 2012 as far as i know. That is when it went into the manual.

Hi, just read you enquiry. Have the same problem. P38 2.5 DSE (1996) Auto, in main dealer for service & MOT, warning mess on dash "Airbag Fault", came on suddenly. Dealer say's "ECU" at fault, Quoted £700 inc Vat to replace!! New "ECU Module" fitted 18mths ago. Am awaiting reply from Mechanic. Anybody with any suggestions would be welcome.

Yes the ABS light and the TC light on until the car goes above a certain MPH do you rekon the testers are going to fail them then if they are not familiar with the p38??

That I beg to differ. Sat in mine today and watched as the TC, h/brake warning went out and just left the ABS light on. And didn't move an inch. That's the only light that I was left with. Moved and it went out.
