Hi, has anyone changed air bags for springs? if yes, which manufacturers and spec, does anyone recommend?

I wouldn't say that around here... it's not popular :p

There are documented cases of people doing it and it working, but you really do want to try and keep the EAS working (which, provided it isn't ALL broken is usually cheaper to do than respring it). Personally I think if you spring it just becomes a very electronic Disco 2 :p With EAS the P38 is a very comfortable, versatile car :)

Why do you want to make the change? Is it because the EAS is broken? If so, explain the symptoms and a brigade, led by Wammers and Datatek, will explain what to do!
If it's because you're kitting up as a hardcore off road vehicle maybe springs are better? I'm not sure of that myself to be honest

The EAS is better for off road especially as it will raise the car if grounded, springs will not do that:)
For hardcore off road, Arnott Gen3 give extra articulation with suitable shocks but still give normal height comfortable road use.

There we go see there is really no excuse for springs! :p

I was just wondering about the risk of bursting a bag on something sharp in arduous conditions?

i off road my p38 down the beach and greenlanes regular and have no problem with the air bags but everyone seems to think that coils are the way to go for some reason whereas i get good articulation on standard airbags

Indeed - the whole point of EAS is being able to have long travel "soft" spring rates off road for maximum axle articulation at the same time having the car low and stiff enough so as not to fall over on the tarmac.

not entirely true ,the whole point is just height adjustment not rating or travel

I'm just back from a moderate mountain trip.

Other car was a Prado.

P38 much more comfortable and the other driver had a sore back (apart from other comparisons which are not fair on the Prado).

For longer trips I take spare air bags, height sensors, o rings, splicing bits etc etc.
