Whats your thoughts on changing from air suspension to coil springs?
everyone seems to have an opinion on this.
 
Fit springs and be done.the ride is worse but its reliable.

some rangies however get away with never faulting on eas some never stop either...
 
could I have some straight forward advice from those who have done the conversion, like that from beast o bodmin,
is it just a matter of opinion,
is it down to which kit you use
or is it just worse full stop.
I understand the sentiments of those saying that if springs were better LR would have fitted them from the start, but the reality is surely that the air suspension was added to make it easier for fat town folk to get in and out and use the car on motorways

Like gaylanders were meant to have hgf and vcu locking.

I fail to see the corrolation between these two replies and straight forward advice.

so far One person has told me its a bad idea, One person has told me its a good idea and One has told me its less comfortable.

Armed with this advice I can make an informed decision on which suspension to go for??
 
my point was merely to demonstrate that because something was designed in, it doesnt mean that it is the best possible solution. Landrover, like all manufacturers have to compromise between legal necessities, comfort, cost etc. If you have a particular application in mind, then their compromise may not be "best".

I am someone who knows nothing and I am asking for the advice of people who know, if you don't know anything yourself then don't bother posting on my thread, I thought forums were there to help people out, clearly this forum is not so I just wont bother coming on here again.

:doh: youve had people tell you to keep the eas and others tell you the rides worse on springs but reliable what more do you want? you nose wiping?
 
Hi... first post. I have converted my RR Classic soft dash from air suspension to coil some 3 years and 35K miles ago. Not only was the air spring nonesense unreliable and requiring almost constant attention but (I think) the coils work better, the car does none of the silly up and down business (like a bluddy Citroen), there is no more pump noise, and that intermittent fault light on the dash is off forever.
I would suggest that you swap to proper suspension (coils) if you intend keeping the car or make friends with somebody who has a LR diagnostic computer and save some cash!
 
First rule of Landrover ownership - have a sense of humour ( essential if you are running a P38 ) second, see first rule.

You also need to realise that this forum is very light hearted, and if you not up for a bit of p*** taking then perhaps try the LRO forum.
 
I've converted my soft dash to coils and don't regret it. Range Rovers were designed with coils, so I have no qualms about reverting to standard.

It's a shame that so many people on here revel in ****ing people off. It's not big, it's not clever, a lot of you just come across as a bit of a ****.

Or possibly download the free software and make a lead for your own computer, hence saving even more money.....;)

Definatly bigger than my sons Corsa, and you cant tell me a car that wipes the rear screen when you select reverse after having the main wipers on isnt clever.
I rest my case.
 
Easy to convert, but buy good quality springs, Disco springs, the one without boge unit I found the best to fit. Over 30 years experience with Rangies and found the ride better with springs, and steering more positive. Cheers.
