me again, i have a 2004 4.4 petrol, i recently replaced the piston ring in the air suspension compressor as it was taking a while to change between different heights which went ok as i thought.

i didnt have any faults logged on the all comms and still dont.

however, i have noticed now that whenever i start the car after its stood for a day or two or sometimes less the compressor runs for about 30 seconds to a minute as if it recharging the reservoir every time.

the suspension hasnt dropped and the orange light on the height indicator doesn't flash

i removed the compressor from the car so disconnected the two pipes that go to the two components fitted to the side of the spare wheel well and also from the compressor.

could a leak from any of these pipes cause the reservoir to leak after its been pressurised ?

If your suspension isn't dropping then I wouldn't worry about it

ok, thanks, mine seems to do it a lot and only since i had it all apart and unplugged the air lines, i might give it a dab of soapy water around the joints and see what gives

Do you use the car daily ? Over 60mph by any chance ?

i only ever use it at weekends and most of the time i am not going over 60 but i do on occasion, i do notice the suspension changes to the motorway mode when i am on a faster road

Was just checking as change of ride height will obviously cause the compressor to kick in to top up the tank

Poor range rover, only used at weekends :( lol
 
it may use a little when its parked to keep it level but i'll have a check at some point, i was going to do it today and when i took out the spare wheel i noticed i had a puddle of water which means i must have left something out when i fitted the towbar last weekend so got sidetracked looking at that, bless this little miracle of automotive engineering.
i would love to drive it everyday but i do about 3000 miles a month so if i could afford that sort of petrol i'd buy a bloody new range..:D
 
The L322 self levels up when parked to compensate for any drop (unlike the P38 which levels down), this will use the stored pressure in the tank so it would not be unusual for the compressor to run a bit if it has stood for a while. It only needs a tiny weep from an airbag or joint.
 
i suppose, i may just be listening for it more after i rebuilt the compressor but dont recall it running on nearly every start up before.

i changed the front suspension last year but not the rear so they may well be due changing at some point soon which i thought was going to be a cheaper job than the front but looks like i was wrong.

bit like everything i find i have to repair on this little princess, £500 seems to be the starting point........

That's a fair point about how cheap the parts are for the p38, i remember my series 3 landrover, unbelievable how cheep the parts were for that, i have said before, the pleasure from owning my L322 doesn't come from driving it but from finally working out whats wrong with the stroppy little cow and putting it right :D

back to original question of the compressor running on every start up after leaving for a while, does anyone have a pneumatics diagram so i could work out what pipe might be leaking causing the reservoir to drain. i tried testing with soapy water but its difficult to gain access to the connections when the compressor is still connected in the boot.

this only started after i stripped the compressor so i reckon i have done something or should i just strip it apart and check all the connections?

i have managed to pick up a second hand faultmate MSV2 but haven't managed to get it set up yet(another story) and wondered if this will tell me pressure in the reservoir ?

Thanks Ant, i was being a numpty, i found that in rave once you had posted it, i think i was looking in the wrong manual.

hopefully i may be able to monitor the system with the faultmate if i get it going if anyone knows if this can be done with the MSV2 extreme??
 
The fault mate should show the tank pressure

It does everything else !! lol

You will need to get the previous owner to transfer ownership over to you so black box solutions can license the unit to your cars VIN
