No...always diconnect the black negative lead first...for Christs sake don't disconnect the red one first...this has a pyrotechnic charge in it to disconnect the battery in the event of a crash....I have seen the video and the bloke is a numpty for disconnecting the Red first...always the black one - wait 20 minutes then you can disconnect the red one (not needed in this case)...put the black one back and see if after the reset Lock to Lock you still get the warnings...

A hard fault can be identified by all the lamps on the ride height selector being unlit...soft fault is Hold lamp and Standard lamp lit...

thank you for this,

i would've ruined the car :)
,
to start with, the air suspension deflated out on the road one night, i left it overnight and either by my turning the key or by itself, it had risen in the morning.
the lights where all over the shop and a week later perished, i'm going to try the battery trick, otherwise it's going to be a very expensive trip to LR.

still, i paid WELL under the odds for this car but the previous owner tells me he had this problem frequently as his wife would leave the headlights on over night. have to take the battery to a garage and charge it. this car was not taken care of very well, the guys tells me he left things like "topping up the oil" to "the mechanic"

thanks,

Chris

black?

i'm no scientist but the negative is connected to a brown lead which is connected to the body?

i've removed that?

can't see how it changes anything but let's hope i don't blow myself / the car up.,

Yep my bad...originally the neg lead was black...the Europeans decided it should be brown....anything but the red one :D

Also put your location down...maybe some one local has the diagnostic gear to take a look for you!!

just to confuse everyone - brown used to be live :(.

So it's not just me, thanks

did all the steps above, air sups inactive message remains :(

Chris

p.s i'm in the crawley, west sussex area.

Are the Hold and Standard Ride Height lamps lit on the selector switch??

Thanks for all your replies so l leave car outside tonight and set high on the height switch couple of questions 1can I take keys out of ignition as I'm worried about doors locking themselves only got one key.2 if the susspension isn't working at the moment will it show up on the airbag
Thankyou all
Greg

Still is for mains wiring.

The only way I can remember it is that touching the brown is going to give me brown undercrackers!

Pete
Euro electrical regs allow any colour except blue or green/yellow to be live.
Very useful for complex lighting systems.

Yes lock the car as normal, if there is a leaky bag the vehicle will drop overnight....

You will need to have the car off the bump stops to ntice a drop in height overnight...

No,

they were about a week ago, but went off almost overnight, just went for a great afternoon around the woldingham area, the car feels more rattly than it should, not an obscene amount but,

oh, by the way, the traction control also doesn't work, but these are linked..

possibly unrelated, the heating / air condition system is blowing out really weak,

air compressor maybe?

just lifted the real wheel well cover to find white mould spores... :(

Compressor area sounds all damp by the sounds of it and the ECU has gone into a hard fault hence the lights on the panel going out

Needs a diagnostic plug in to reset it

If the lamps on the Selector are off, it has gone into a hard fault and will need to be on diagnostics to figure out.....

It is getting rattly because the suspension is slowly going down as the system is in fault....

The fact there is white mould/spores in the whell well is a good indication that moisture has got in to the compressor housing no doubt and knackered either it, or the electrical connections in there. Unfortunatly the Wheel well and the rear left corner are prone to leaks in the L322.

Unfortunatly you'll need to get it on diagnostics to figure out what is holding the system up, but my guess is compressor/moisture related.

First things first....find the source of the leak and rectify....next clean out the wheel well and unplug and remove the compressor housing and open it up and see if there is moisture in it...dry it out in the airing cupboard or similar....Clean all the electrical connections there too....

Put it all back together - now this won't make the system work - you will need to get the system reset using diagnostics.

I ahve the RSW All Comms but Crawley is bit far out for me, but can be done at a push (Other side of Guildford is where I'm at) or we can meet somewhere in the middle near Dorking or such like if you want....

Can't do the weekend, but anytime next week is OK (bar Wednesday) at anytime really given enough notice!

But there is little point in resetting the system until you see what, if an, damage has been done with the moisture you have found!

Well, this is great, i'm learning so much about this car as the days go by :) land rover are having a laugh at my expense.

i'll have a look at said "compressor" tommorow in daylight, i could definately treck to guildford that's no big issue, what would you want for plugging it in?

funny i found this forum, you're a decent bunch, it was actually a red 01 defender owner in redhill halfords that put me here.

previous owner was ademant that there was no fault and that it was simply caused by leaving the battery on etc.

shame about all this happening, i was hoping to hop to slinfold on sunday (may well still go) but want the air sups & dsc to work.

one last thing, some dick managed to break off the hill descent switch, i'm going to order a new panel for that area with the switch on it, anyone got any work arounds for temporarily activating it?

last thing, sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread,

Don't want anythig for plugging you in to the All Comms - just bung a donation in the Help for Heros tin next time your at Tesco or something....

Don't mind you heading this way, but the girlfriend has said she doesn't mind me helping out, but she doesn't want 'Those from the internet coming to where I live...' I hope you can appreciate, but there is a Sainsburys car park just up the road from me or anywhere that has a lit car park and a flat surface!! Or anywhere close to you....

The only way to get the HDC to work would be to try and get a small screw into the broken bit to act as a lever...

Let me know if you want to plug in and send me a Private Message and we'll arrange...

Golden Rule with buying a Range Rover - never buy one with faults no matter what the seller says unless you are fully aware of the potential cost of repair!

The car won't move with a door open, the system inhibits ride height adjustments with a door open....
