hi, my air con was not working today and idrove past kwik fit and saw a sign saying air con recharge or no charge so i drove in and asked if they could recharge the system, he did but when connected to the machine it detected a leak but they do not do diagnostics, does any one know how i can trace the leak or will it have to go to a garage. any help would be apreciated.

You need to gas the system and add a dye to see the leak under UV light.

If you have a P38 rangie then chances are, its the condensor that has rotted out on one of the corners.
 
I'll go along with that. The aircon guys should be able to put Nitrogen in with the dye-it's a lot cheaper than R134 and doesn't harm the system or the hole in the sky. My condenser went, luckily it was in the top L.H. corner and the fitter spotted it straight away.
 
do you mind me asking how much they charged for the re gassing - its just my 93 disco needs sorting , cheers ade

Kwik Fit charge 49.99 providing they can improve your cooling by 10%. If they can't then its no charge. If you know your system is OK and just needs a top up then there are plenty of places who will do it for less than kwik fit.
