Today I went for a top up of gas at Kwick**** and after their machine has sucked out all the gas it would not refill it so I didnt have to pay and im no worse off as the air con did not work.
Does anyone know why the refrigerant will not go in? the compresor is not cutting in because there is no gas in the system but if i power it direct from the battery i can hear the clutch kick in.

Compressor will not work when there is no gas pressure. As far as i am aware oil and refrigerant should be drawn into the evacuated system initially. Theoretically if old can be sucked out new should go in.

If the thermostatic expansion valve was jammed up (sits on the bulkhead slightly towards the passengerside) would that stop a recharge? Valve costs £30 new so might be worth a shot? Can be done without removing any other parts.

if you can get gas out, then you can get it in.i suspect that the gas was low due to a leak and your system failed the vacuum check.with an automated ac machine that would stop it.

Exactly. If it can be evacuated it can be filled.

If the TXV is sticking then it might get a partial charge or none at all.

it will charge perfectly well with a stuck expansion valve, but if its stuck shut the gauge reading the "low" side of the system will show a vacuum when operated.

Mine didn't. Only got half a charge in. Replaced the valve and no more issues.

Hi Ovalandrover Did you solve your air con prob .Sorry to dig up an oldish post .Took mine to Ats no recharge But no charge ......................thanks
