Hello

Have just bought a discoII ES TD5 1999, when I turn on the "econ" which I presume is aircon to everyone else it makes no difference is this common or do I need to get it re-gassed ? and if so does these aerosol kits you can buy for replenishing aircons work , or should I get a professional to do it , here quickfit or ATS do a good deal ?

Econ turns the compressor / Aircon OFF...

For full Airconditioning on, press the Auto Button and set the required temp. If you move both temp selectors to low, it should blow ice cold from ALL vents in no more than 2 mins approx, if its not ice cold, then its likely you need a regass.

Kwikfit is an option as its only £45, this will suffice if it just needs topping up, but will not show any small leaks if thats what you have. The DIY kits......mmmm not my cuppa as there is no way to vac the system with them to remove moisture and no way of telling how much if any refrigerant or oil you already have in there

A copy from the owners handbook below which you can download from LR.
You only need to re-gas if you have had a leak and the a/c is not cool enough.
I still running on what was put in by the factory 12 years ago.

Economy mode
Press the ‘Econ’ button to operate
(the display shows ‘ECON’).
In economy mode the air conditioning
compressor is switched off and the system
functions as a conventional heating and
ventilation system. This reduces the load on the
engine, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
Select Economy mode whenever air
conditioning is not required i.e. in cold weather
when the external temperature is lower than the
temperature required for the passenger
compartment.
The air distribution, blower and recirculation
controls can be operated independently.
Pressing the ‘Econ’ button a second time will
switch the air conditioning compressor on and
return the system to Auto mode.
NOTE: In Economy mode, it is possible to
switch the blower off (no segments showing in
the display).

Just to add, I recently had the AC in my DII re-gassed and it is great. Real improvement on warm / hot days (remember them?)
