Hi, i have a freelander Td4, i needed the aircon recharged so halfords did it for me, the following day when i put the landy into reverse whith the aircon on, a terrible noise comes from under the bonnet, only to be described as a lolly pop stick flicking spokes on a wheel, if you understand, the noise ocasionally comes and goes while driving normally. its an automatic gear box, and the noise stops instantly when either the aircon is switched off or the blower control is switched off.
any ideas any one??????

As the system has been recharged the most likely cause is the increased load on the pump so either the mag clutch is having a problem or the drive belt

First mistake was going to halfords Check your fan for something stuck init as it comes on with the air con

might be worth checking the trim panel in the wheel arch next to the engine where it sits on the undertray. it's really close to the lower pulley, and even if put back slightly wrong causes a rubbing sound not unlike a lollipop stick in the spokes of a wheel...

yep you was right, took it to land rover service centre and they had a look and fixed it free of charge, wicked, just a loose screw and panel he said, thanks guys for all your guidance and comments

I know this is stupid but it could be the case. I had the same thing... turns out the idiot dropped a cap off the container into the fan.
