Hi All

I'm new to this forum and Discos, recently bought a V reg Series 2 TD5, great fun and really useful. A couple of times the rear driver side suspension has collapesed, and reading the various threads here I'm sure it is the air bag. I'm happy to change this myself but would be keen to get some idiot proof instuctions (and pitfalls to watch out for!). Does anyone know where I can get this?

Sorry if I am going over old ground but I have found plenty of comment here on air bags and suspension but no instructions.

Air spring - SLS

64.21.01

Remove

1. Using TestBook, depressurise SLS air system.
After depressurisation, approximately 1 bar
(15 lbf.in 2 ) air pressure remains in the
system.
2. Raise rear of vehicle and support under
chassis.
WARNING: Do not work on or under a
vehicle supported only by a jack. Always
support the vehicle on safety stands.
3. Remove road wheel.
4. Remove 2 clips securing air spring to chassis.
5. Collapse air spring and disconnect pipe from
top of air spring.
CAUTION: Always fit plugs to open
connections to prevent contamination.
6. Rotate air spring, to unlock from axle and
remove from vehicle.
7. Remove connector from pipe.

Refit

1. Clean mating faces of air spring, axle and
chassis.
2. Fit pipe connector to air spring.
3. Locate air spring on axle and rotate 90 to fully
engage bayonet fitting.
4. Connect pipe to top of air spring.
5. Engage top locating pins of air spring in chassis
and secure with clips.
6. Fit road wheel and tighten nuts to 140 Nm (103
lbf.ft).
7. Remove stand(s) and lower vehicle.

I did mine recently...

A few tips for you:

get some high axle stands under the chassis, use a trolley jack under the axle pan to adjust the height when inserting the new bags.
Make sure that the car is level on the stands re-inflation with the axle on a slant will be tricky as the rideheight sensors do thier thing.
Make sure you have some replacement clips for the airbag top... you will likely break the old ones.
The compressor wont work with any door open, so reinflate by arm through the drivers window onto the ignition key
You can deflate the old airbags by backing off the pipes at the valve block, in the box under the passenger side of the chassis. be carefull not to overtighten them back up though.
Re-inflate in small stages making sure that the airbags inflate correctly and seat correctly rotating the base if needed.
Inspect the ride height sensors carefully and replace if damaged - a failure here could be messy!

I'm no expert at all, but I replaced mine in 15 mins or so. I tried the jacking up of car etc etc etc, but just couldnt get to the top clip easily. Asked a mate who has a mate who is a LR mechanic. He said, jack the body up, not the car (suspension).
So on the second and successfull attempt I did the following:
Jacked up against the underside of towbar bracket, supported with axle stand, loosened off pipes etc, took old bag off and put new clip on (had some spares in case), reconneceted pipes, lowered gently, started up and hey presto...
What I thought would be a ****e job turned out to be a complete peice of piece...
As I said though, I.m no tech head and probably did it the wrong way, but hey I did it and it only took 20 mins top.

It's for replacing the air springs with coil springs but it doesn't matter, you fit the new air springs going reverse of the removal.
