I have removed my dash twice now once with the air bag in once with it out, both times to remove heater box(flaps sticking) it’s a lot easier if it is removed, it gives you a lot more room when working on the heater or the blend motor on the passenger side, remove glovebox, disconnect battery, wait 10 minutes then disconnect the wires running to the air bag, use a very thin screwdriver and push from the bottom of the veneer to where the inserts that hold it on are, if you measure from the door side they are approximately at 57mm,190mm,374mm and 495mm,gently leaver at these points and the veneer will start to come away, don’t be afraid it’s pretty strong, just go along easing it up, undo the 4 bolts holding the air bag in and out it comes, keep the airbag upright while its stored, it does not take 10 minutes to do it and the amount of room it gives you is astounding ,when refitting I put some masking tape on the dash and marked where the holes where so that I knew where to push on the veneer when reinstalling it

Brave man removing the complete dash but well done :praise:. As you know, it's a big, hefty, cumbersome lump to manouvre out of the car even with a couple of helping hands.
When I removed mine some years ago, I made up four pilots out of 1/2" dia aluminium bar, tapped M8 on one end and machined a point about 15 deg. on the other. These were used to guide the dash back into position and removed one at a time when the bulkhead fixing bolts were fitted and made the refit much easier as the dash was hanging on the pilots instead of manually.
Changed the blend motors using the non dash removal method once and was never happy with the method. I decided to remove the complete dash next time round and found it much better as the heater assembly is out in the open and accessible for flap operation checking and freedom of movement. Only downside is that you have to virtually take the interior of the car apart to do it properly and without causing damage !!

i think removing the dash is the best way that's why i did it,my brother gives me a hand to take the dash and to put it back in,it takes a day in out,its the striping down of the heater box that takes the time,we removed all the flaps, cleaned them and filed them that where stiff, worked on them till you could move them with a feather!,then put silicone grease on all the moving parts, time well spent,i think that's what causes a lot of blend motor failure myself,no more book symbol on hevac
