Hi All,

Before I when on holiday I disconnected the battery by pulling off the negative lead, so as not to flatten the battery when I was away.

When I got back and re-connected the negative lead, then started the car the red air bag light stayed on the dash.

Went to my local garage who plugged it in and said the car had detected the battery disconnect and 'Low Voltage' was the cause of the light. Then re-set the air bag light for me.

Went to the office, all ok, then went home and it came back on.

The car had a new battery last month, but I charged it up just encase, still the light is on.

I have not moved the seat or anything, just unplugged the battery.

So, what should l be looking for?
Is there a procedure to reset the air bag after a battery disconnect?
Any advice. It is driving me mad !!
 
Diagnostics I am afraid!

I have disconnected the battery in my L322 numerous times and not had any issues with the Airbag lamp....Diagnostics will confirm why it is on!
 
I had the same issue a while back and it's part of one of my old threads but not sure which.
The Allcomms read the fault as battery disconnect unit which is the yellow pyrotechnic device on the positive battery connection as you may already know.
I tried a few things like disconnecting the plug on the BDU with the ignition off, turning the ignition on, turning the ignition off again, reconnecting the BDU and turning ignition back on. This may have had an effect but the key was the allcomms being connected and left in the fault clearing mode for a few minutes and the airbag light went on and off a few times and then stayed off and has been fine ever since.
The fault wouldn't clear before i did the disconnect / reconnect but then I didn't leave it that long the first time
As Saint says good diagnostic kit is the key as always

Sounds like what i am experiencing.
I don't have a yellow looking device on the positive battery connection though ? What should it look like ?
I notice you are in Rochester, do you have a allcomms and if so would you be willing to plug it in if i meet you anywhere + a drink ?
 
Just looked at a picture of a vogue battery on another 4.4v8 which has a yellow connector with 2 wires into it.
Maybe nothing but mine has been replaced with two crimp connectors (the yellow connector has been removed).
Is the yellow bit just a connector? or dose it do another function ?
 
hi, from memory the yellow part is just the connector block, the battery disconnect unit is red and part of the positive terminal, there is just a plunger inside that fires off and disconnects the battery in the event of a crash serious enough for the air bags to deploy or along those lines.
You are more than welcome to plug in the all comms. I am a rep and get out and about during the week, do you have the rangey with you during the day and if so where about roughly?

The wires are pretty flimsy on the connector so could be worth checking the connections while the battery is disconnected or at least with the ignition off as you don't want to trigger something like the airbags !!
 
Just to keep the post up to date for others with the same issue, the Allcomms seems to have cleared the 'battery disconnect unit' fault in the SRS without any issue :)
 
Good news mate, I have just been looking for the part numbers for the vanos non return valves and solenoid seals we spoke about and have found another thread with the information on it so follow the link below and I'll update the other thread. There is a page describing what the valves do but I am thinking yours may improve with a flush and a change of oil / top up to maximum so well worth a google, you wont be short of reading matter if you google M62 start up rattle and maybe what engine oil to use put it that way.
if you are going to change the seals then the valves are really easy, i'll lend you my socket and the bolt you need to pull the valves out if you like.

Hi my l322 is showing the same fault, is it still safe to drive and will the airbags deploy when needed. Got my MOT in a week or so so need it sorted
 
Is it safe to drive.. depends who you ask.. it would fail an MOT, therefore not roadworthy.
In practise, simply won't do anything

Cheers mate that's all I needed to know, I've tried putting my icar soft on it and the light goes out for a few seconds then comes back on, I'm going to try tightening the battery clamps on the + side see if that works if not I might take out the fuse before the mot.
