Hi all I´m Javier from Chile, I have a 2000 D2 Tds, I heard that after 10 years you have to change Air Bags, is that correct, if yes what is the used solution and/or maintainance

thanks

Someone posted the correct method for disarming and removing airbags in a disco, a couple of days ago. Try the search button on the menu bar.

I don't know what the life of an air bag is but if you do change them be very very careful as people have been killed or severely injured, trying to remove them in the past.

This is true. I've never known anyone change them though.

I was under the impression bags last 15 years but LR may say 10. I have never known anyone to change them though so I wouldn't bother, they still work after this time its just for the manufacturers to cover their arses

i saw a crash test done on a 1996 Mondeo and the airbags deployed as they should with no problems. This test was done for the same question of "how long is the lifespan of an airbag" so i personally wouldnt worry too much because as JONGOULD says its just to cover arses.

Interesting, because we use "Temperamental", the LR D2 as a family car (I drove a LR SIIa), and a famili car w/o air bags it is not, for me it´s an issue

Airbags should last a good 15 years but when messing with them you need to disconnect the battery for at least 20/30 minutes to ensure the airbag doesn't deploy whilst handling. Hope that helps.

should have a vote to see how many people have actually changed them due to their age and like Diesel Do says i would put money on hardly any!
