I have a 2000 4.0 SE with 63,000 miles on it. Today while driving, for no reason the "Air Bag Default" read-out came on and the SRS light (red) was on. After scrolling through the computer (the bottom switch on the left turn signal indicator), the Air Bag Default read-out went away, but the SRS light stayed on. Is there a "re-set" somewhere or something I can check or is this something I have to get to the dealer for a hosing? Thanks....

Hi you will have to get it plugged in to find the cause,but 1 question i have is is your battery ok not gone flat or below 10volts as this can cause problems and induce a fault if you think your battery is ok,then you could try a hard reset,this is disconect the battery leave at least 30 mins and then touch battery terminals toegether discharging any residue current in ecu"s then reconnect battery and see if it clears the srs light off,but as its getting cold i would check out the bad battery theory,hope this helps tiga.

Thanks to Tiga for the response. My battery does crank real slow and I thought that was just the nature of the beast. I'll do a check as you noted, but unfortunately there's no date of install shown on the battery, so it could be getting tired. Thanks again....

best to go and get it checked at a battery spec or stick a volt meter on battery crank and see what voltage it dops down to,you should still get away with doing hard reset on battery works 90% of the time cheers tiga

The posts above will, I believe, point you in the right direction. I would add that this happened regularly on my 95 HSE (about once per month). I think this can particularly happen during the starting sequence if the battery is dropping volts (through age, for example) especially if, for example, the engine stalls or comes under load before the SRS test sequence has completed. The system measures for a voltage across a check resistor to validate that the circuit is complete and if the supply volts are on the low side, for any reason, then the tst may fail. I believe there is an after market mod that can be performed to change the resistor.

In my case, I changed the battery and the the condition now only happens once in a blue moon.

The only way I found to clear the fault is through a diagnostic tool such as Rovacom lite or Testbook, it may be worth trying the other methods suggested.
