My 110 has the wrong number plate for its age.

Its got a M Reg Plate when its a 1983 - 1984 i know why..

Its because it was bought on the 16 March 1984 and went to Hong Kong did 10 years service and came back in 1994. and was then registered here, hence the M Reg plate. (instead of the correct one)

Is there anyway i can get it put onto its correct age related plate?

The VRM indicates the date of registration and not date of manufacture. I assume that it was never originally registered in UK and was exported to HK prior to registration in the UK.
Therefore it's date of first registration in the UK will have been 1994 and hence given an M reg mark. If it had been re-registered in the UK in 1994 it would have received a Q reg mark.
Only option you have would be to buy a plate denoting the correct year and transfer it at cost of around £250. Don't think I'd bother though!!

we have shipped a few in from the middle east, and as we could prove the date of first registration in Saudi (minor miracle) we were able to get the correct year's registration number rather then Q's

It is common practice with Ex-millitary Vehicles to be registered with the "wrong" year plate and then changed to a age related plate at a later date.

What you need is a Certificate (I do not know where to get them for a Defender, but for series you can get them from the Heritage Motor Centre) then phone the DVLA saying you have a Certificate proving the build date of your landy, they will then advise you what to do next.

It was purchased by the Crown and was not registered in this county

It was prob on military plates. it says on the log book that it was declared new in 1994. the serial number relates to the correct age of it.

Believe it or not its only got 8000 miles on the clock and the clock does work.

I think that it should be correct because there is no rust on the chassis at all.

If it is Ex-millitary these are the guys to ask - index

Once you become a member (£17) then you can get a Certificate with the build date on. Then ask on the forums what to do :)
