Methinks he'll find that he has a few unintended bit left over, like the on/off flaps behind the dashboard air vents.
Don't worry, I always seem to have a few bits left over too when I pull things to bits. :D

sounds like a wardrobe job , having bits left over and just saying, they always send spare bits in case u loose some :D:D:D:D

Tell ya what mate, that's a well done Job,
Now here's a thing, I'm quite positive if you try to patent the idea of some type. Buy in a load of facias and start making them. There's some money to be earned, the more you do the quicker and better they get. Even allowing the customer a choice of colour etc. Let them do their own radios anorl. look at the success of some others doing similar things Raptor for instance. It's a good and needed add on for the discos

What would you be willing to pay for it as a rough guesstimate? Either on a send me yours or a fresh unit, or on a swap basis, it would get alot easier and better by doing more, but its purely the hours invested, if only the fabricating the fascia, without cage or anything alone, involves cutting, supporting, filling, sanding, painting, filler primer alone wants overnight to dry, and its a fair few hours lot! Thanks for the feedback!! :)

There's only you who can answer that, the easiest way is to think how much would you sell yours for.

i would like one - let us know a cost if you are going to start modifying them
can anyone recomend a good dbl din head unit - im just wondering if the cheap ones have poor sound & screen quality - any advice appreciated

Listen matey if I was you, I would spend a good bit of time setting up a jig and production workplace, no not the kitchen table lol. Work out the actual hours doing one. How many a week/month and take orders giving the customer a deadline date.
Always take a deposit which covers the cost of materials.
I would have thought with the right tool and equipment and set up, and more experience you could knock up 1 maybe 2 a day and having them ready for painting.
Set your goals. But be warned don't over do it and get some help.
There a honest and no bull set of guys and gals on here who would I'm sure tell you how much they would pay, so ask.
What you got to lose.
But listen it's a cruel word, protect it or share it.
If you don't somebody will, I guarantee it.

I would also suggest leaving it a few weeks to make sure you get no cracking, and that the right materials are used.

Getting them cracking after a week would be so infuriating.

Uses a polycarbonate ABS mix, both are weldable.

I would suggest using ABS plastic for the formers and gluing them in with plastic plumbers solvent.

Dichloromethane I think

Welds the plastic together

I only used the body filler i had sitting there, but in future i would use something better, i also had fibre glass sitting there but the fillers fine for me. I also had the plumbers stuff but didnt think to use it!

Will give it a thought, put it on the discovery owners club on facebook, and many said theyd buy one, its just for how much, but i have the free time so could be an idea!

Problem is that some stuff does not stick well to ABS and the filler well may flake off (I hope not though), I think GRP will as well.

But get a spare in and try a nasty solvent (OUTSIDE) with something like old bumper plastic cleaned of paint.

if i were to do it ( having some bodyshop experience ) i would use the flexible filler used on bumpers to eliminate cracking & as mentioned above use the correct adhesive to glue the plastic together ( stay away from fibreglass as it dries hard & will probably crack )- i would hate to see them all returned to you after a month due to cracking - definatly some money to be made here for sure & if you have the time go for it - when you work out how much it will cost please let me know & i will definatly purchase one from you

Finally got around to getting mine done yesterday...all in, took me 6 hours start to finish. Didn't paint it though, just primed the filler work and wrapped the whole thing in some carbon fiber vinyl I had lying around...properly chuffed with the results:D

That's an awesome job, good Idea with the wrap that's probably saved you a lot of time took me forever!
I've gotta get mine out and redo it I've scuffed it all up so much it looks naff!

No pressure :D the reason im looking to give it a go...
A - i cant stand my local fm radio stations most of the time
B - drivings my favourite part of the day, especially with a top playlist
C - the aftermarket stereo currently in there is naff
D - the single din looks outdated and doesnt suit the disco IMO
E - i used to have my tablet in my old car working like the head unit, i could remove it easily, and it had everything i wanted on it
F - i love a good sound system, (even though i listen to country) and have the perfect practical spot for my old sub, i think that a truck like a disco needs a good system, i remember my old man's 2 D3's he owned and loving their satnav and sound system etc. As a kid
G - i think the touchscreen head units look the nuts!

So i'll give it a shot, hope in the future i'll have the reverse camera linked up too, its got plenty of goodies i hope will smarten up the truck, thats about all the tech i'll ever put in it

Should get started tomorrow :)
A truck?
