I was after buying an ex MOD 110 soft top Land Rover, 110 Soft Top RHD & LHD, #38644 - MOD Sales, Military Vehicles & Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale and replacing the tray with an ambulance body; anyone know where to get one? Or if this fails mounting a box trailers body on to the back chassis- with a little cutting and welding!

How about buying a wolf ambulance like this

Then spending the money getting it back on the road
To be honest that would be a pretty good option; little beyond my capabilities to say the least though. How much do you reckon I could sell the chasis and engine etc. for if i whipped off the ambulance body and slapped it on a working M.O.D. land rover?
 
I would suggest that easier to fix the wolf than move the body onto a mod lr as the wolf ambo will be a 130 not a 110 IIRC
 
I should think you are right! Cheers Guys I may just have to do that! I will post pictures of the re-build. Should provide some laughs.
 
Spoke to the guy who's going to help me repair it and we're looking at building a back from the chasis up- or going for an ex-workshop (BT, elec board etc.) model if one crops up- not sure where to find this.
I am after the practicality and space of a large box that I can heavily modify rather than a ex-ambulance specifically. Ex-ambulances seems expensive for what they are and generally a lot of work if they are cheap.

Been on the look out for a quadtech body for a while now. Nothing came up although I did see one that went for 60 quid a month back on the bay. Gutted! Don't know if I should wait around or go for the self build and aim for something like this 1989 landrover 127 workshop | eBay

That would be the ideal thing for me although not to my specs.... and budget. The problem is finding a donor 130 vehicle (pricey); am thinking of using a 110 (not extending chassis to avoid reg probs etc.) and having a large overhang over the rear wheels- anyone know the legal limit for this? I would plan on using it as work space over the rear wheels rather than putting any weight there.
 
IIRC overhang ie amount of body behind centre line of rear axle is 60% of wheel base , eg 66" on a 110

My choice would be the wolf (daft price apart). Front end, easy fix. Bin what's left of the, now junk, motor or use it as your exchange, for a rebuilt unit. Hope they don't notice it's full of sand. Meanwhile, get dash and front seats, sling all the strechers and stuff out the back on the scrap pile or fleabay. Couple of windows let into the sides, and trim to your personal taste. Looks like it might even have air-con in the back too, bonus!

Thing is I pretty much agree with you... on all points (money). If I had the money I would go for it for the aesthetics and having a genuine piece of kit but I reckon I can achieve the desired outcome for far less money- with buying an old M.O.D 110 and going weld crazy on the back. It's a nice thing to have an old wolf ambulance and I think the general price of them reflects this a little too much.
