Firstly thanks for accepting me into this great forum.I ve been offered this pick up at 5k its mechanically sound with a galvanised chasis. The bodywork is a bit ropey and the interior leaves alot to be desired.I have been waiting to pull the trigger on a defender for a while now,my questions are 1 do you think its worth it? 2 How much to rectify the bodywork roughly.Thank you.

Easy to sort that wing. They just unbolt. You can probably get a secondhand one in better condition, and in the same colour.
The main killer of land rovers is rust - so if the chassis is done that’s excellent and won’t need worrying about.

what state is the bulkhead in?

what engine in it?

Its a 2.5 and its done 94k and from what i can gather the bulkheads are pretty sound.

Which 2.5 ? 19J ? 200 Tdi 300 Tdi ? Td5 .... ;)

Galv chassis is a huge plus.

Worth looking on the tube for a vid about LR 90 Bulkheads, and how to assess them .... sadly, they can rot for the sake of it :( o_O ...

2.5 what? Petrol or diesel and which diesel? There were about 5 different variants of the Diesel engine - some bad, some good and some excellent. Post a photo of the engine and we can identify it

Looks like an OK project, nice to have the galv chassis. If the bulkheads ok then thats the main costs sorted. Rather a slightly tatty one like this than a shiny one with a rotten chassis

Hi and Welcome, haven't owned a Defender but have worked my way through Series, Discos and RR. They are the simplest machines to work on, easy to upgrade and plentiful spares and advice. I think the current market is Defender keen, so unless you paid the wrong side of £10k you really can polish a turd if it's a proper LR. Like you, there are loads of people longing to own a LR of some shape or form, so they will be desirable for a few more years.

Hi and welcome!

A good place to start with the value is to take a look at eBay, particularly the classifieds. The bodywork can be changed much more easily than the chassis and bulkhead, so having the galvy chassis and hopefully a decent bulkhead means that everything else is pretty much cosmetic. If it’s a Tdi, the value will be more again than a non-Tdi engine, although due to Tdi conversions, landies with original engines are rising in value.
