The same could be said for the Rover V8, is that still a GM engine?

Toyota definitely manufactured those F1, F1.5 and F2 engines themselves from 53-83, and some parts are interchangeable mainly the bottom end oily bits, but the heads were totally different.

There is a rather daft series on French TV called Peking Express, this year it was in Burma and surrounding countries, the number of old series Landies on the roads in the more isolated places was amazing.

Think my old disco may just creep into the above..
its a 200 dti....
thankfully I have by passed some of its rubbish electrickery allready.
Its got 12 volt relays for use in its headlights....
now, thats a bright Idea ;)

not got an electrickery derv pump either, just stop and go....

some time ago I remember a lovey dovey film that SWIMBO was watching but featured an old series out in Africa of somewhere, the landie had no brakes, nor did it run on all 4 but the comical capers became part of the film....
it was parked often by using brick under a wheel....
oh, it had neither doors nor roof, dont think it had a windscreen either :D

You can say that again.
That vehicle did all that it was designed to do with just the basic stuff.
No huge tyres, snorkels, locking diffs, electronic terrain handling gizmos, etc that our modern landies are burdened with to make them better but have somehow made them less useful to an extent.
Probably why my old 110 was a more practical and reliable daily runner than my previous disco 3 with all its creature comforts ever was.
Guess not all things are made better with time.
