The aerial on my Discovery broke at the very base, I didn't think this was too much of a problem as I have got several spare wire coat hangers I thought I could use as a temp/permi replacement.

However I have tried twice with two different aer...hangers and each time the signal doesn't improve at all, what am I doing wrong?

Is it really that difficult to get a wire coat hanger to work as a temporary aerial?

Don't know really, usually work well enough - a new aerial can be had for £3.50 (mine snapped too!) but I can only assume the outer wing must be removed to swap it. Just laid mine in the rain gutter area below the wipers and it works! an M6 dome head bolt fits nicely into the aerial remains as a blank...

A bit rougharsed I know - just call me emerybutt!

seven screws holding top of wing and four 10mm bolts down inside between front door opening you may have to prise the top of the wing off due to the mastic sealent. I did mine yesterday it took less than half hour, it is also worth waxoyling the inner wing at the same time

leekegs.

Does the bonnet have to come off too? couldn't get to the rearmost screw as the bonnets trailing edge sits straight over the top of the screwhead...

I think I actually prefer not having the aerial stuck up at the side - perfect to be snapped off by a low branch!
