I've just had a narrow escape when changing a wheel on my L322!! Just about to remove the last bolt and the jack failed.

Looks like its striped the thread off the captive bolt at the end of the jack, car dropped, fortunately the last bolt held the the wheel stayed on!!

No more scissor jacks for me, but need some advice.

I need a replacement that can be carried in the car for emergency use as well as using it in the garage so a trolley jack is going to be too big.

Looking at something like the Clarke CBJ4 4-Tonne Bottle Jack - Just a bit concerned it wont lift the car high enough. Specs say the max height is 190-385mm but is that enough? Had to really crank up the scissor jack to get the wheel off the ground

There is a 6 tonne version that lifts slightly higher 195-405mm. Is that enough?

Any advice gratefully received.

Can you lift under the axle on an L322? Like you can on Defenders, D1/D2s etc? If so, a bottle jack with an axle 'cradle' would be best, then you wouldn't need to lift as high.

Thats what i would suggest they work very well and are quite small for storage

I bought a brand Merc Sprinter bottle jack from ebay for £25 (ish) delivered.

3t, opens to 570mm I think....

Loads on there - take a butchers.
